Cayman Islands Update:
July 2005: One of scuba diving’s top destinations reversed the homophobic policy of a previous administration and welcomed Undersea Expeditions gay and lesbian groups traveling to the islands.
28 June 2005
Dear Mr. Hamman,
Thank you for your interest in the Cayman Islands and for requesting an update on the Cayman Islands Government’s position on gay and lesbian travellers.
It is unfortunate that events in the past may have cast the Cayman Islands in a negative light. As you are aware, these decisions were taken by a prior political administration.
As a country, the Cayman Islands will not discriminate against any social group and will graciously receive all visitors to our shores.
I want to thank you for the spirit of goodwill that prompted your inquiry.
Respectfully yours,
Honourable Charles E. Clifford, JP
Minister for Tourism, Environment, Development and Commerce
